There is a general criticism that Malayalam movies have lost their sensibility and sensitivity. But from time to time come movies that give us hope. Director Lenin Rajendran's Rathri Mazha seems to be one.

It is a poignant, powerful and paradoxical view on human relations. The director tries to flesh out absurdity in our lives in an interesting manner. Of course, it takes a trained mind and a sensitive soul to do that. Lenin Rajendran is certainly one. We saw that in his movies like Meenamasathile Sooryan, Chillu, Puraavritham, Mazha and Swathi Thirunaal.

He brings to his art a rare awareness and sensitivity that is increasingly absent in our commercial-centric movies.

In Rathri Mazha Lenin Rajendran gets down to inter-personal relationships and throws the spotlight on an interesting paradox. The story takes off on tow dance-loving people. The two get to know each other on the internet. They exchange ideas and opinions. They understand that they have so much in common. Their sensibilities synchronize. Their world-views coincide. In a sense, they think they maybe made for each other.

Are they?

When they actually meet up in flesh and blood, life's surprise comes to the fore. They don't seem all that attracted. But the mind wills them to marry. And what happens after that?

Find out in the movie.

In a film dominated by lilting music and dance, fittingly Vineeth and Meera Jasmine form the lead pair. It is a larger-than-life opportunity for Vineeth while for Meera it is yet another chance to prove her credentials as a sensitive actress.

Others in the cast are Bhanupriya, Manoj K Jeyan, Biju Menon, Cochin Haneefa. All have well-etched out characters.

Lenin Rajendran's strength lies in his ability to bring out the dissonance and discord between the real and virtual of our lives.
